Filling Inlays and Onlays

Porcelain inlays and onlays are restorative solutions that can help in mildly decayed, cracked, or fractured rear tooth that is slightly damaged and does not need a crown. They allow to save the original tooth and reinstitute the function of the damaged tooth. Inlays and Onlays are customized by taking an outline of your impacted tooth.

Difference between Dental Inlays and Onlays

An inlay is a small portion of material that is placed at the center of the tooth where there is mild damage. This sits at the center inside the grooves of your tooth. An onlay is used where the damage is not localized and has spread to the entire cusp (portion that is used to bite or chew) of your tooth. Though an onlay covers the entire cusp from the edges, it is not as protective as a crown which acts more like a cap and envelops the entire teeth.

Benefits

  1. Porcelain inlays and onlays help keep healthy teeth and repair any minor damage to the teeth.
  2. Onlays and inlays are easier to maintain than other extensive restorative treatment options as it is easy to brush your teeth with them.
  3. They are much more conservative, and your impacted natural tooth does not need many alterations as compared to other tooth preservation options.
  4. Inlays and onlays resemble your natural teeth and are more durable.
